This Fall Study and Sermon series is in two (2) parts – Part I, September – October and Part II, November – December.
In this first part of the series we will examine the concept of Sacrifice and then take an in-depth look at who was this Jesus, Yeshua the Christ, our Afrikan Messiah.
We are taught and reference is made to historical figures who “sacrificed” for us as people of the Afrikan diaspora – Patrice Lumumba, Medgar Evers, Harriet Tubman, Malcolm X, Cecile Fatiman, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Queen Nzinga, etc.
We are reminded in our individual families of people who “sacrificed” so that we can enjoy the life we now have – parents, siblings, uncles, aunts, grand/God- parents, cousins, family/close friends, etc.
We have been constantly told in our faith journey (no matter our Christian denomination) that “Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice, he gave his life so that we might have eternal life”.
But what does that really mean? In this study and sermon series we will examine the meaning of Sacrifice from a myriad of perspectives to find out what that really means in our current lived Africentric Christian context.
Sacrifice (Lat., OF, OE)…
To offer something (especially a life) to a deity as an act of homage, propitiation, penitence, thanksgiving, devotion, etc.
Something given up for the sake of another.
The act of giving up a desirable thing for a more a higher object or to a more pressing claim.
