Spiritual gifts are different from those talents we have learned through life. Some of us recognized a ā€œnackā€ for something and decided to build upon it by learning certain skills. Spiritual gifts are from Our Creator for a Divine Purpose-this study engages us in answering:

  • Oct. Ā 1st What Do I Discern or How Do I Discern My Spiritual Gifts?
  • Ā Oct.Ā  8th How Do I Equip Myself and Others in My Spiritual Gifts?
  • Oct.Ā  22thĀ Ā  What Is My Effective Service (Ministry) Through My Spiritual Gifts for our families and our communities?

Sunday Afternoons, Wednesday Noon and Evening Bible Study

Christian Theology Class- Christian Theology Course:

The purpose of this course is to teach church members basic Christian doctrine. The course will focus on the persons of the Godhead and briefly examine key Christian doctrines: At the end of the course students will be familiar with

  • Sunday, Nov. 2th The person, nature and character of God
  • Wednesday, Nov. 5th The person, work and ministry of Jesus
  • Sunday, Nov. 9th The person and work of the Holy Spirit
  • Wednesday, Nov. 12th Several key doctrines/teachings of the Christian tradition
  • Sunday, Nov. 16th What the ā€œend timesā€ are

The Nominating Committee is seeking members who are willing to serve the office of Elder or Deacon of First Afrikan Church. Pray that God will lead you to nominate people who have gifts for ministry leadership. You may also nominate yourself. If interested, qualifying information is available in the narthex and downstairs on the table across from CFABS office. Paper applications can be submitted to any member of the Nominating Committee. The deadline to submit applications for Elder or Deacon in any venue is TODAY. Ā ELECTIONS WILL BE HELD AT THE CONGREGATIONAL MEETING SEPTEMBER 28, 2014

All Current Ministry Chairs: An electronic copy of the qualifying information for newly elected Ministry Chairs will be emailed to you on/by September 6, 2014. In addition, a few copies will be available inĀ Narthex and downstairs. Please note all ministries should hold elections before October 5, 2014 so the newly elected Ministry Chair will be in place to attend the series of Newly Elected Leadership TrainingĀ beginning on October 18, 2014

Disciples of Service will be feeding the homeless Saturday October 11th starting at 8:30 am in the FAC community room.Ā  We are looking to do a great work, as Jesus commanded us to do.Ā  In order to do this we need the support of the entire FAC family.Ā  We are requesting your support through your service and donations, please see list of items needed below.Ā  We will begin preparing food at 8:30 am sharp and then leaving for Atlanta by 10:00 am. Please see any Deacon for more information.

Items Needed: Ā 

  • Peanut Butter and Jelly
  • Turkey or Chicken Meat
  • Cheese Slices
  • Bottled Water
  • Snacks
  • Fruit

WEEK EIGHT/ ā€œLET’S BURN THE MORTGAGE!! As a part of our becoming debt free, FAC is kicking off a campaign to retire the rehab loan on the Vanessa Knight Building.Ā  We need at least 100 families/people to give $10 per week over and above their normal tithes for 17 weeks starting August 3, 2014.Ā  Please note in the memo section on your checks or on the bottom of the offering envelope ā€œBurn the Mortgageā€.

Our Children, Our Stories will be held TODAY and each First Sunday at First Afrikan for two groups: Children (4-8 year olds and 9-12 years old). Parents may send or bring your children downstairs after HARAMBEE. They will come back upstairs for ZAWADI. TEENS are welcomed to help facilitate either group.

Volunteer as Storytellers and Story Readers to share with/read to Our Children in the community room(s) during morning service on First Sundays. Books are available in the CFABS office or you may bring your own. If you haven’t completed Boundary Training, you may pair with someone who has to participate.
