 Occasionally\, we use a "pre-selected" set of scriptures from a guide call
 ed the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL)\n\nThe Revised Common Lectionary is
  a three-year cycle of weekly scripture readings used to varying degrees b
 y the vast majority of mainline Protestant churches in Canada and the Unit
 ed States. The RCL is built around the annual cycle of seasons and holy da
 ys used by Christian churches to organize worship and commemorate the life
 \, death\, and resurrection of Jesus.. It allows millions of Christians ac
 ross different denominations to hear the exact same scripture passages on 
 any given Sunday\n\nDuring most of the year\, the scriptures include a rea
 ding from the Old Testament\, a Psalm\, a reading from Paul's Letters \, a
 nd a Gospel reading.\n\nThe RCL rotates through three years labeled Year A
 \, Year B\, and Year C. Each year features one of the Synoptic Gospels:\n\
 n 	Year A: Focuses on the Gospel of Matthew.\n 	Year B: Focuses on the Gos
 pel of Mark.\n 	Year C: Focuses on the Gospel of Luke. Note: The Gospel of
  John is heavily featured during Year B and at major festivals across all
