The Substance of Things Hoped For” Prayer Room Beginning September 1-September 19, 2015—First Afrikan Church Family, we invite you again to aid us in increasing and enhancing our corporate prayer life. We will transform the small end of the community room into our “prayer closet” and it will be available to anyone at anytime during the weeks leading up to our Ancestral Walk. The creation of a physical space specific for our prayers of thanksgiving, reconciliation, strength, intercessory, healing, acceptance, forgiveness and love will provide an abundance of spiritual power beneficial to all. There will
be specific stations for prayer as well as open spaces to invoke Our Creator and Our Ancestors. There are prayer booklets to acquaint you with the discipline of prayer should you desire to continue this practice of faith in other environments. For any questions and additional information please see Mama Itihari, Deacon Rene King or Min. Rhonda Jones

Ancestral Walk Ancestral Walk and Bible Study 2015-“The Old Landmark”. Please register to participate in our 2015 Ancestral Walk Saturday, September 19, 2015 and Bible study beginning Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 7pm classes only. Our Ancestral Walk recognizes the role, sacrifices and hope in the Black Church. On Saturday, September 19 beginning at 6:00 p.m., we will walk down Panola Road telling the story of the Black Church as a House of Praise, A Prophetic Voice of Our Community and, a Social, Political Force that changed the course of history in this country. In preparation for the walk, we will study three dimensions of the Black Church. The walk with conclude in the park of First African church with a reviving of the “Hush Harbor Circle. Bring your lanterns, your quilts, tambourines and walking sticks as we honor those Ancestors who conjured the Holy Spirit to bear witness that God is in Control. Complete the Ancestral Walk and Bible Study Registration Form located in the Narthex and downstairs in the community room. Each Bible Study has its own free book drawing of a beautiful photographic book on the Black Church. Your registration enters you into the drawing.

The Bible Study topics are:
Sept. 2-The Black Church: One Community Being Community (book drawing: Soul Sanctuary) This study aids our understanding about how the church functioned as the center of Black Life-Black Mattered so much that the Black church created ways to protect our voice and our bodies (Hush Harbors, Praise Houses, Sabbath Schools, the role of the pastor, mothers, and youth in the community setting). This session provides participants with a better profile of the “Old Landmark” in the life of community.
Sept. 9-The Cost of Black Faith (book drawing: Covenant) “Power concedes nothing without a struggle” This session recognizes the fight and assault on the Black church. Both the spiritual and physical assault on the Black church which impacted its role and relationship in our communities. Not only are there burnings, bombings and destruction from external forces, there is spiritual assault led by greed, patriarchy and corruption. This session examines the consequence of the external and internal damage to the spirit of the Old Landmark
Sept. 16—The Black Church: Radical Hospitality & Radical Generosity (book drawing: Crowns and the book, Revelations) -The final session in preparation for this Ancestral Walk is what we realize as our spiritual weapon against the continued assault on the Black church. Our study concludes with reclaiming and arming ourselves as a faith community with the ways of being the “Old Landmark”. How do we be as a faith community to regain our collective spiritual and social power and, what is a personal and collective contribution to this return for victorious Black living.
