Lent and The Resurrection of Yeshua

This sermon and study series follows Yeshua to the cross of calvary where he is crucified, and to the empty tomb where he is risen by Yahweh. It concludes with a few stories about the ministry of those earliest post-resurrection students of Yeshua. The intent of this series is to chronical the psycho-emotional resilience of those earliest students of Yeshua and to highlight their collective determination to adhere to Yahweh’s agenda.

In ancient Egyptian/Kemetic religion there is a concept called serudj ta. Serudj ta means to “raise up what is in ruins; to repair what is damaged; to rejoin what is separated; to replenish what is depleted; to set right what is wrong; to strengthen what is weakened; and to make flourish that which is fragile, insecure and undeveloped” (Karenga 2022). In the current N. American social, economic and political context where so much is being destroyed it is incumbent upon those who know the way(s) of Spirit to serudj ta. Serudj ta is a strategy of resistance that requires kujichagulia (Ki-Swahili for self-determination) that demands that African people define, defend and develop our selves instead of allowing others to do this for us. We must recover our lost memory, imagine and build the world we prefer to live in.

In the face of the Roman Empire of old, the earliest students of Yeshua utilized serudj ta to begin creating the sort of social, political and economic realty they preferred. Utilizing the teaching and practices of their teacher (Yeshua), they envisioned and developed alternative ways of being and living where truth, justice, reciprocity and compassion were the primary ethical components of their common life. We can and should emulate them.
